Are We Really Listening To The Spirit Of Christ?

May 30, 2017

“I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.  As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you.  But as His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit- just as it has taught you, remain in Him.”  1 John 2: 26-27

David P. who claims to be a Pastor/elder in his current “church” made the following comment recently in some online communication about me:

“If you don’t have a Pastor, and you refuse to have one, then you are in rebellion and disobedience to Jesus and the Holy Scriptures.”

It seems to me that David’s comment flies directly against the passage I just quoted.  David says you must have a Pastor/teacher or you are going directly against Jesus.  Just where are those words in red?  Seriously, Jesus said “You must be born again.”, but He did NOT say “You must have a Pastor.” That is exactly the type of teaching that John says will lead us astray.  We are not to be dependent on any man or woman.  For anyone to say we NEED a human leader or shepherd other than Jesus is, I dare say anti-christ?  No, I am not calling David an anti-christ, but the comment he made most certainly is.

The real truth is that we do not need anyone to teach us.  Because in the Spirit we have His anointing to teach us about ALL THINGS and the FULL COUNSEL OF GOD.  His anointing is real, not fake and it continually teaches us to remain in Him.  Again, in Him we lack nothing!

Now there are a multitude of ways that His anointing teaches us including…The voice of Christ or direct revelation from the Spirit, revelation from the bible, nature and via the anointed words of other Christ followers. The key is to look and listen for His anointing in all things and all people.  The Spirit will guide us into all truth in this manner.  When I listen to people I am always listening for His voice, His anointing, and His truth in what they are sharing.  When I am open and attentive to Him in any circumstance, He is able to reach and teach me what I need to know in that exact moment.  It is crucial that we be surrendered and in the flow of the Holy Spirit at all times.  When I am totally yielded to HIM like that I am able to discern the difference between His anointed words and all other types of words.

I guess what I am saying here today is that God is still speaking.  In fact He never stopped.  Even though David and others claim the Scriptures are the complete and “final revelation” from God.  I say that God is NOT confined to speaking only through scripture.  Jesus via His anointing and Spirit teaches us everything we need to know concerning the past, present and future.  And He does not just speak through the bible and a select few humans such as Pastors and elders.  His voice can still be heard in almost everyone and every situation…including unbelievers and Balaam’s ass.  The key is are we really listening?  His sheep hear His voice and obey.  Jesus is the One and Only true Shepherd.  Please listen for His voice and follow only Him and no other today.

Love and……

Did Jesus tell His 12 disciples to follow after the teachers of the law and the Pharisees? Quite the opposite when you look at the tongue lashing He gave against the “pastors” in Matthew 23.

Totally agree with you, Cap’n! We can even follow the scriptural logic to confirm what you are saying! Perhaps we should be saying that the “office” of professional christian ceased with the reformation-tragically, it did not…

    • Stephen, thank you for that confirmation and yes the reformation stopped WAY short by keeping the Clergy intact.

I think our hearts can confirm what you are saying, CK👍 Who would rather hear a half-hour or hour monologue compared to interaction between fellow believers? Reciprocity……personal real-life connection and discussion?!? I know which I prefer! Information vs. revelation! No contest.

Some are preachers, some teachers, some healers… etc. All are needed in the body of Christ.

    • That’s right Tom. We NEED every member ministry in the Body and everyone sharing their gifts to benefit the whole Body and Glorify Christ together.

Do you think even 5 % of christers ( Christian wanna bes) have a even a clue that his divine spirit gift is THE key to everything? What a pathetic failure religion system has been!!!

    • Definitely a failure Rich. Lot’s of extremely bad teaching and preaching has failed to truly equip the Body to be overcomers.

    • Instead of equipping the Body to be Spirit filled and led overcomers, THe false religious system has taught everyone to be dependent on the Clergy rather than Jesus. THat makes a very weak and pathetic “church”.

Amen! Thank you for sharing this wonderful truth that we need to follow only Jesus and all shall be taught of God ~ The Holy Spirit. That is the very reason the LORD pulled me out of the churches. I’ve even stopped listening to preachers now and for the last five years. It’s just me and Jesus and whoever I know God leads me too online. I love the account of Philip in Acts and how the Holy Spirit moved him and that is how it is supposed to be. God bless you and thank you for sharing. jacky x

    • Welcome to my blog Jacky and thank you for that word of confirmation. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God shall be the son’s of GOD.”

I agree that revelation comes thru scripture, nature, other Christ followers, Holy Spirit direct-line, all things…even pastors (those peers functioning as shepherd/watcher not as a titled office holder). So much good nutrition can come from the above but also so much crap, even toxic waste. Don’t want to ingest the latter! Thank God for the Annointing! So glad the Annointing acts as a direct-line, secure portal, Downloader of truth, as well the most excellent Filter of Crap. He is wonderful! Thank you, Christopher for another wonderful word!

Must amend my last comment. I listed the Holy Spirit as one of the sources of revelation. No possibility of crap coming from Him, of course. Just setting the record straight.

…or scripture. Add that to the crap-less list. (However, the enemy can distort it into crap if I’m not in the Spirit when reading it!)

      • Absolutely right Dan, the enemy and “men” can twist and distort scripture too.

      • Amendment duly noted Dan, I understood what you meant.

    • Thank you for that upbeat confirmatory comment Dan. You are right we need the anointing, NOT crap!

I agree …..Listen to Jesus and His Holy Spirit .
Test what you hear otherwise to see if it originates from Jesus. I cannot listen to any of the tv preachers …seems they go on and on about their rendition of God’s word. And send money.
Jesus is the only way ..not man’s ways. He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us and guide and direct us to make disciples . Acts 5:32. We are witnesses of these matters and so is the Holy Spirit which God has given to those obeying him as a ruler

  10. This is so true. Good article. Most of us have grown up in the system and that is all we know. Even though we read in the bible that the Spirit is within us, we have the mind of Christ, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we sometimes have a hard time actually acting on it. We are so used to sitting quietly, listening to one person tell us what they think God is saying. So glad that my wife and I finally came to the realization that this is not what God intended. We are all equally functioning parts of the body and we need each other, yet no one person is head over us. We are all under the headship of Jesus and we are to be listening for the guidance of the Spirit within.

    • Absolutely Mike, thank you for sharing your confirmation and encouragement with us here today brother.

  11. Hello Kirk, I saw your post and thought I may add one comment. I too am a follower of Jesus that left the traditional systems years ago. The article is well written and it is sad this pastor is caught up in an order that is not in the scriptures. All I would add is I do hope we have others we are in relationship with that have permission to speak into our lives for instruction. Anyone we allow into our lives to be accountable is a special privilege and should never be taken lightly. I personally have a few close brothers that have permission to come to me if they think I am out of order. I believe we all need to recognize this brother has a point of accountability but it is not administered under the title of a pastor in a church. It can only be done as we come together in relationships built upon trust and the work of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for sharing.

    • Thank you for sharing Kevin, and yes I am all for relational mutual accountability in the Body of Christ. We need our mutual sibling peers to speak into out lives for balance, growth and perspective.
