How WE Make Disciples

May 26, 2017

Greetings,

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”  Ephesians 5: 21

I quote this verse today because Jorge made a thought provoking statement in a comment on a long ago blog.  He said this…..”Without submission there is no discipleship.”  I believe there is truth in that statement, but not in the way Jorge intended it.

When Jesus gave “The Great Commission” He made it very clear that a primary purpose of the Church was to “make disciples” or to help others develop a deep and meaningful relationship with God and the Body of Christ.  The traditional “church” is failing miserably at this because they think it can be done by right preaching, teaching and correct doctrine.  Few, if any, disciples can be made from a pulpit; but that is their main go to plan.

The only way to make true disciples is via personal relationship and laying your life down for them.  If you open up and share your very life with someone, you then are given the opportunity to share the gospel too.  In healthy relationships there is always mutual submission and a free & open exchange of convictions, thoughts and ideas.  The key is that we come alongside each other and never seek a place above someone else.  We should never forget that in Christ we are all equal sibling peers.  Differently gifted at times, but still mutual peers at all times.

Jesus desires that His Church would operate in total unity and love.  This can never happen where a human hierarchy exists.  Because when there are offices and positions that place some Christ followers over and above other Christ followers there is no true unity.  How can we ever be ONE in Christ unless everything is mutual and shared, including leadership?  Never forget that everyone in His Church is gifted and called.  If we would truly submit to one another out of reverence for Christ…. the Church would be transformed and new disciples would be made every day.  The way we overcome and grow is brother to brother, sister to sister, friend to friend, and NOT Pastor to congregation.  We need each other in the Body of Christ.  Please cast down all your crowns and titles and seek His face today in one accord.

Love and…..

Kirk Out !

FOLLOW ME AS I FOLLOW CHRIST ( the anointing) is not only the apostolic call , it is the RESPONSIBILITY of ALL who are out in front of any other. Return LEAD to its original meaning – to show the Way – Not just telling other where to go!

This vision is so sweet. Beautiful. Alongside one another…..”what a wonderful world it would be..” …. “Let it begin with me”.

    • Yes Sue, and I definitely see HIM working in you . What a simple, sweet, surrender.

    Amen
The way Jesus taught to everyone. Door to door . Do not carry a purse. You receive free you give free. Your reward is in heaven .. not on this earth today .

    • There is no evidence that Jesus went door to door with the gospel, but the early church surely went house to house. Thanks for sharing Judy.

You just described our conversations all over the world. We are united in everything same lessons same songs we understand each other so well that you could say we have one language we are known by the love we have for one another all over the world and for our neighbor everywhere in the world we are known for our honesty and integrityin the world. Each person goes preaching by door-to-door telephone and mail letters to the ones we are not allowed in such as apartments so you could say each one is a disciple. And we have many missionaries all over the world. Our books are open at all times to be examined in every headquarters . No one receives money except our missionaries are given enough money for a room and food and necessities this truly is the closest religious organization to Jesus standards. True love is awesome …. I even went to a kingdom hall in Scotland and we had the same lesson that I had in the United States also I got to attend a service in Costa Rico. Even Spanish I could follow along in my English magazine. Oh wonderful OK good

    • Judy, seems you have found a way that works to encourage, equip and send you to help others. I do not endorse any faith organizations. I follow and serve Christ alone…

The way disciple-making has been conceptualized by the church is irksome to me. Essentially, they turn MT 28:19 into “You will be my disciple. You will learn from me. I will teach you what there is to know about Him. Subject yourself to me as my pet project. In time, you will have learned enough to go and do thou likewise with a disciple of your own”. This reeks of hierarchy! I really think that Jesus wants us to be making disciples or learners OF HIM! I think that we are to, as peers, equip others to literally have the “spiritual equipment” necessary for that to happen. The end result will be fulfillment of 1 John 2:27 – They need no one to teach them but the Annointing which is Him will teach them all things. The following is lengthy and I apologize but it is the best that I can do to summarize the process of truly obeying the spirit of MT 28:19’s making learners…learners of Him:

    A disciple is a learner
    How do I disciple you
So that you are not a disciple
    Of me

    …but of Him?

I will make you a learner
    A learner of Him

First, you must be led to the new birth
For in that, you will be gifted with
    Spiritual ears to hear
    His voice

    Then you must be led
    To discover His manifest presence
    That tangible place
    Where His Spirit covers you
    Creating a sanctuary
Where it is just you and Him
    A distraction free zone
    A quiet place
    Where His voice is found
    And vision abounds

Once you can see this place
    Experience it and visit it
He will draw you to it
    Woo you there
Plead with you to enter it
    Time and again

    There, in this place
He will teach you His ways
    Instruct you
    Guide you

    You are now a learner
    Of Him

    You have a Teacher
    Him, only Him

    You have a classroom
    The canopy of His Spirit

    We have now fulfilled
    The Great Commission
    I have made a learner
    And you have learned

    …of Him

I spent many a year in a group who placed knowledge as THE way to establish people; we, too, taught the same things, spoke the same ‘language’,; had the same order of worship and meeting. I was totally shocked one day to read Eph 3:[17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, BEING ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN LOVE
    [18] May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
[19] And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” What???? Rooted and grounded in LOVE, not knowledge????? And THEN I’ll be able to understand His ‘dimensions’???? with ALL the saints???? And love PASSES knowledge???
Walking together, discipling alongside one another. Amen. Just this morning I was told when you have ‘those kind of people from the streets’ you have to have strict rules. Sigh….my response was ‘that’s not my experience.’ Bringing people up knowing they CAN hear from God, it is their privilege an right gives them a life that never leaves. Whew! Got my mind moving this morning! Good stuff, “BK”

    • Thanks for sharing that BK. A BIG problem I have with the traditional/institutional “church” is that they always seem to treat potential converts or disciples as projects rather than people who need Love and Grace. Evangelism and discipleship PROGRAMS fail because knowledge is applied rather than LOve, acceptance and forgiveness. Telling others that Jesus Loves them rarely works unless the person telling them that Jesus LOves them actually loves them too. PEOPLE ARE NOT PROJECTS!

Amen and amen! I live in that environment right now. They would not agree they have that view but it is so hard. I can only address it in seed form, and at His leading. Love, “BK”

      • BK, I am praying that the seeds you plant will be watered by the Holy Spirit and grow quickly. Love you!
