The Voice Of The Lord

January 13, 2016

“Paul, an apostle-sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead…”  Galatians 1: 1

“But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.  Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.  I saw none of the other apostles-only James, the Lord’s brother.  I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.  Later I went to Syria and Cilicia.  I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.  They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”  And they praised God because of me.”  Galatians 1: 15-24

Several quick points here…

1.  Paul was sent directly by God.  He did not have to be endorsed by a Pastor/Leader, “church” council or any missions board.

2.  Paul did not consult with anyone, including others who were apostles of his day.

3.  It was three years before he even went to Jerusalem and met Peter and James.

4.  All this being said…when The Lord leads you to go somewhere or do something, you can just do it.  You do not need approval or permission from any person or group.  If you trust His Voice you can just flow in the Spirit and do ANYTHING He calls you to do.  Problem is that most do not know or trust His Voice, even though the bible states that “His sheep hear His Voice and obey.”  It is a matter of hearing His actual Voice and not second hand revelation from the mouth of another.  It is all about hearing His audible Voice, at least it will seem audible to you when you hear it.  NOTICE:  It does not say that His sheep will read the bible and obey. This is about intimately knowing and recognizing the Voice of our Lord and then following exactly what He says.  The big question now is do you trust Christ and His Voice?

Ask yourself the following questions:

“Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God?  Or am I trying to please men?  If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”  Galatians 1: 10

Just who are you trying to please?  And why?  If you are going to follow and serve Jesus then just go ahead and serve Him as His Voice leads you.  Forget about the approval and acceptance of mere “men.”  Paul did not return to Jerusalem for another 14 years after his first encounter with Peter.  And when he did return he opposed and rebuked Peter to his face, because Peter was listening to the voices of the Jews instead of The Voice of The Lord.  Peter compromised the truth in love and was honoring Jewish Law over and above the message of Grace.  How often do we compromise what His Voice tells us in order to keep the peace and win the approval of mere “men”?

I know I am asking difficult questions, but know that I am asking myself the very same questions and I am definitely not measuring up 100% of the time.  It’s simple….hear His Voice and obey, but we tend to over complicate it in our daily lives.  Today I choose to listen to The Lord…knowing full well that who HE calls HE also equips.  Stop measuring yourself by external standards like the Law and peer pressure.  Jesus always compensates for whatever  you may lack in gifts, skills and ability.  Now is the time to just BE obedient and follow His Voice today.

Love and…..

Kirk Out !

P.s. Please take notice…I am NOT saying that the prayers, accountability and confirmation from our equal sibling peers in Christ are not important or valuable.  It is great to have that type of support in the Body of Christ.  However, what I am saying is that hearing Christ’s voice directly for ourselves is infinitely more important.  Learning to hear, trust and depend upon the Voice of the Lord in our lives is the main key to knowing and abiding in HIS will for every aspect of our very being.  It takes faith in HIS Voice to actually do HIS will in our daily lives, and there will be times we will have to step out in this faith when no other means of confirmation are available.

  1. Yes, I agree… And there is so much more here in what you have written. This is a key posting…. much much more is in here than at first read and much much more can be built on this foundation.

  2. Especially encouraging, Cap’n……👍 Sure appreciate your time and effort into hearing His Voice.

All you note in the segment of Service to the Lord is right on. The hint is that this all just happens, which we know from text, personal experience, and observation of others, is not the case. For Paul, it required being knocked down, confronted by Gods Voice, blinded, cured by the power of a laying on of hands. While not as dramatic for us, it is common initiation

Amen Chris! Such a vibrantly important subject as we walk forward through this year! It truly is all that Jesus has wanted from the beginning of time. For His people to hear His Voice, be His people and let Him be our God.

Rich, I guess I kind of disagree on the quote there..”The hint is that this all just happens”. It seems when we quit fighting against God, that it does just happen. Very quickly in many cases and knocks you off your feet when you realize that Jesus just worked in your life.

The key is the listening to the Voice and being obedient to it, no matter what. Obviously when He isn’t working in our life, or we feel knocked down, blinded, etc……is when we are resisting Him. Right?

How can this point be overstated? You make a great, super important point! But I totally understand why people get so prickly and slide back under the law out of fear. This truth used to scare me. Deep down I knew I wasn’t really hearing Him but was “working” so hard at doing so, it overwhelmed me to face the reality of this failure. Then came devastating trials, severe on-going physical pain, losing many family members and other non-stop suffering. Finally I laid it all down and went before Him as a little child. Poured it all out in brutal honesty. Then waited. And waited. And waited some more. The anticipation of his appearing has been phenomenal. It’s not a matter of if He comes, but when we see Him, as He is here already. Love you Chris.

    • Love you too Sky! I am sooooooooooo glad that Jesus came to me long before I ever encountered the Law or legalism. I was introduced from the very beginning to the New Covenant by Christ Himself and thus avoided much of the pain and confusion of the Old covenant. The only thing I know to run back to are the open arms of Jesus. For those overexposed to the Law all I can say is “as a dog returns to its vomit so a fool returns to his folly.” Walk with Christ and discard everything else that does not match up to His Love, grace, mercy and character.

I don’t hear an audible voice… I do sometimes get an “impression” in my mind of actual words, sometimes images, on occasion dreams, sometimes an overwhelming sense of tearful joy. Mother Teresa was said by her confessor to have reported other than a couple of weeks one time, she “heard” only silence from God. “My ways are not your ways…”

If his mind is our mind and vice versa, then it is like a Vulcan mind meld ( right Kirk?) or a real life telepathy. What I get is a sentence, maybe as I wake ,or lay awake – right out of blue, like nothing myself was thinking, and it always seems so right, so clear, so true – that all I can say is – well, ok

  7. While it is true that the Lord can, and does, speak to us face to face in many diverse ways… an important aspect of how he wants us to live this Christian Life is in Love and Unity with one another and this is how/where I have found and talked to him:

I’ve found great comfort in the words of Isaiah 30. First he warns us not to trust in men and horses but in quietness and turning to God will be our salvation. But the real kicker is verse 20 and 21. If we’re in a time of spiritual dryness our Teacher won’t keep on hiding. When we swerve out of His path to the right or to the left we’ll hear His voice telling NOT what is wrong but THIS is the way, walk in it. Thank you, Jesus!

    • Yes Lila, Jesus is always reaching out and communicating to us. HE makes paths secure and always leads us in HIS ways. There is no escaping HIS boundless love and counsel.

  9. this is from something I wrote a while back:

So the thing is this—We, the entire body of Christ, is like a HOLOGRAM Plate—and each of us individually are a small shard of that plate… and when the light of the Holy Spirit shines IN US then you see CHRIST—the GLORY of GOD— IN US! And the more of us that shine, the clearer the picture/presence/nature of Christ becomes, in us!

That’s why it must be 2 or more—one is the light and one is the shard of the plate—as they are both in us—we carry both the light (the Holy Spirit) and the Glory (the image of God’s only begotten Son, Jesus) —Wow—

We are the little shards… its like we DO have the entire picture… Yes, well like every cell has the entire DNA.

We WERE saved in SPIRIT—Complete in Spirit—job done—it is Finished—So we have the Full image of God’s Son IN US—but we also have the Holy Spirit in us —WOW—

So the Holy Spirit reveals the Son (the Fathers Glory) in us!—its like an old thing but I’m like seeing it from a new angle!—awesome—but it takes more than one—it takes two—one to shine and one to display the Glory. .. OK!

Its like the Wife is the Glory of the Husband—I am kind of on the fringe of understanding—you see the thing is this—we have the fullness of all wisdom and knowledge and understanding already in us!—COMPLETE—but it needs revealing—then we will see who we really are—it is then that we become the True Mature Sons of God… Like a Hologram, each “pixel” has all of the information—but the more you pixels you get, the clearer it is.

Sometimes I think I am loosing my mind—but my hope is that we are finding HIS mind!

This above was taken out of a very long blog and re-edited:

Great thoughts Mike. Sometimes it’s a real challenge to get thoughts across in text when we are writing about God and our relationship with Him. I’m thankful to be able to draw from so many wonderful brothers and sisters here.

  10. I love what you shared here MIke, In Christ we are made complete both individually and corporately. May HIS Holy Light shine through us illuminating HIS truth in love.

I think of the missionary work of Bruce Olson and how that is a great example of what you wrote about, Chris.
