Are We Really Listening To The Spirit Of Christ?

December 22, 2015

Greetings,

“I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.  As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you.  But as His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit- just as it has taught you, remain in Him.”  1 John 2: 26-27

David P. who claims to be a Pastor/elder in his current church made the following comment recently in some online communication about me:

“If you don’t have a Pastor, and you refuse to have one, then you are in rebellion and disobedience to Jesus and the Holy Scriptures.”

It seems to me that David’s comment flies directly against the passage I just quoted.  David says you must have a Pastor/teacher or you are going directly against Jesus.  Just where are those words in red?  Seriously, Jesus said “You must be born again.”, but He did NOT say “You must have a Pastor.” That is exactly the type of teaching that John says will lead us astray.  We are not to be dependent on any man or woman.  For anyone to say we NEED a human leader or shepherd other than Jesus is, I dare say anti-christ?  No, I am not calling David an anti-christ, but the comment he made most certainly is.

The real truth is that we do not need anyone to teach us.  Because in the Spirit we have His anointing to teach us about ALL THINGS and the FULL COUNSEL OF GOD.  His anointing is real, not fake and it continually teaches us to remain in Him.  Again, in Him we lack nothing!

Now there are a multitude of ways that His anointing teaches us including…The voice of Christ or direct revelation from the Spirit, revelation from the bible, nature and via the anointed words of other Christ followers. The key is to look and listen for His anointing in all things and all people.  The Spirit will guide us into all truth in this manner.  When I listen to people I am always listening for His voice, His anointing, and His truth in what they are sharing.  When I am open and attentive to Him in any circumstance, He is able to reach and teach me what I need to know in that exact moment.  It is crucial that we be surrendered and in the flow of the Holy Spirit at all times.  When I am totally yielded to HIM like that I am able to discern the difference between His anointed words and all other types of words.

I guess what I am saying here today is that God is still speaking.  In fact He never stopped.  Even though David and others claim the Scriptures are the complete and “final revelation” from God.  I say that God is NOT confined to speaking only through scripture.  Jesus via His anointing and Spirit teaches us everything we need to know concerning the past, present and future.  And He does not just speak through the bible and a select few humans such as Pastors and elders.  His voice can still be heard in almost everyone and every situation…including unbelievers and Balaam’s ass.  The key is are we really listening?  His sheep hear His voice and obey.  Jesus is the One and Only true Shepherd.  Please listen for His voice and follow only Him and no other today.

Love and……

Kirk Out !

Amen..dear brother…our Lord is not confined or restrained in His communications to His people. He speaks and we listen and follow His leading. On bended knee we serve a risen Lord who continually guides us by His Spirit. As we share with one another the love that has enfolded us we are enriched and restored. ..this is the true expression of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ .

God spoke.to me, in fact He wrote it down so I would not stray from His Word to me, it is written in His Word. That is how I know if someone is speaking their own thoughts, or Gods Word, does what they say agree with His Word. It’s not osmosiss, God promised to hand His Word down to.us and keep it alive. But we must hear His Word, and not our own. Most all of us can read now, so we have no excuse not to hear Him. Discieship is teaching, but we are not teaching our ideas, we are educating our self’s with oneanother. Writing our own bible is how we got into this mess.

    • Sorry Gio I cannot agree with what you wrote.

Gio, you are referring to the Bible when you say ‘His Word’? You do realize when the words we quote now and call ‘the Bible’ were not even available back in the early days, except those who the letter was written to? (and I mean that respectfully). As the Spirit has opened my eyes along my journey there have been many times I rebuked Him because it was ‘against Scripture’. Problem was, it was against my concept of Scripture. One finds in the scriptures a doctrine of eternal torment in hell for bad people; another finds that they just go out of existance; and yet others find He has redeemed all…..all in the same ‘Word of God’ i.e. Bible. So, no, the Bible is not our guide into all truth. It has to come from the Spirit and it should bring life, not division and dissension. As Christopher noted, it CAN come from Bible reading but the life and truth comes to us from the Spirit. Jesus didn’t promise to ‘hand His Word down to us and keep it alive’ (or at least I know of nowhere in scripture it says this). What He promised was the Spirit of Truth that would guide us into all truth. Not a little black (or burghandy) book; not Bible lessons…..THE SPIRIT. A very important point. So, while I can appreciate your appreciation for the words written in the Bible, I have to disagree with the words themselves. Love, “BK”

    • Gio, I agree with BK. Jesus is actually The Word of God, not the bible. I follow a person, not a book. Christ in every way is greater than the great book. It is the Holy Spirit that leads us into all truth. That is why the Body of Christ needs to be Spirit led, rather than bible led. Don’t get me wrong… quite often the Spirit leads us to the written word, but not always.

  4. Amen… Spot On!

  5. This whole “pastor” obsession is part and parcel of what Jesus called “the Nicolaitans.” Twice He stated that He hates both their teaching and their deeds. The word “Nicolaitans” is the crushing and conquering of the “laity” in favor of a clerical-ecclesiastical caste system. Paul warned oif this system as well on the beach with the elders of Ephesus and told them that some of them would “come to the front so that the disciples would follow them.” He called such men “ravenous wolves who would disrupt the flock.” These men set themselves up as mediators between the Lord Jesus and His people. “My sheep (my people) hear my voice and they follow me.” Leadership in the body of Christ is from the bottom up rather than top-down. Jesus said in one place, “Let no one call you ‘Rabbi’ (teacher) for you have only one Teacher and you are all brothers. Do not let anyone you ‘master’ (or leader) because you have only one Leader who is Christ the Lord. It’s remarkable how these men seem to think they have a biblical basis for their Nicolaitism but handily reject the plain and clear teaching of the Word which contrarily states there is only one Head of the ecclesia (see Eph. 1:22-23), which is Jesus Christ our Lord. I love the Amplified version of this passage which speaks of His headship operating throughout the church so that Christ would fill All in All.

Exactly Chris! But this is “no net” for most…..thinking without a safety valve of somebody “higher up” to validate it for them. And very scary indeed. What if I am wrong, what if I am totally missing it, what if I am deceived and don’t know it? (that’s redundant since the nature of deception is you don’t know you are deceived) but anyway, the flesh will act out in a million ways with a thousand questions when the truth is in variance to the only thing we’ve ever known. The Bible says that tradition nullifies the word of God in other words, these constructs from the minds of men will snuff out the Holy Spirit teaching so we end up thinking that the truth is dead but in actuality flesh has usurped and extinguished the fire of Truth.

Whoever speaks, [is to do so] as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves [is to do] [so] as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.1Peter 4:11

  7. Such great comments from everyone today. You are right Sky, FEAR holds people back from stepping forward in their faith and sharing the great things The Lord actually lays on their heart for the good of the Body of Christ, but perfect love casts out ALL fear. We don’t NEED a net when we finally realize that we are ALWAYS exactly in the palm of HIS Hand. And Clark, the Clergy system promotes the fear of being wrong to keep themselves seen as needed experts we need to look up to for safety and well being. It is all a massive lie directly from the pit of hell. People need to know that they are totally free to seek, grow and share the things Jesus puts on their hearts. WE are not in 3rd grade anymore and in need of a hall monitor(Clergy). No, we can now faithfully navigate the hallways without anyone but the Lord holding our hand.

Great post, Christopher! Amen and amen. I think also very pertinent to this part of the letter is verse 18….he is addressing ‘little children’ NOT ‘seasoned Christians who are exercised in hearing His voice….” as so many tell me. Nope….CHILDREN. From our first encounter with Christ we should know HE SPEAKS TO US WITHIN BY HIS SPIRIT! And yes, that comes in a myriad of ways. “BK”
