The Spirit Has Written On Our Hearts

November 17, 2014

Greetings,

“You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.  You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts……….He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant – not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”  2 Corinthians 3: 2-3, 6

This passage shows us that what really matters in life and ministry are Spirit forged relationships.  It is all about being Spirit led and touching peoples hearts.  If we desire to give people life and well being we will do so by allowing the Spirit to guide our interactions.

Ink and paper do not give life to anyone and that includes even the ink and paper of the bible.  Life comes only from the Spirit and the best way to communicate life is via relationships.  The bible does have a role in the life of a Christ follower, but it was never intended to be the primary source of light and life.  When we place the bible ahead of the Spirit and relationship with God and others the letter then kills instead of enhancing our life in Christ.

However, when we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth (John 16: 13) the bible then becomes perhaps the greatest resource in the life of a believer.  There is a HUGE difference between seeing scripture as THE Source and Authority in one’s life, instead of simply seeing scripture as the great gift and resource that it is.  Quoting scriptures may appeal to the intellect of others, but they do not give life to them.

If you want to give life then simply share life with others as you are being led by the Spirit of God. Touching hearts while sharing the Truth in Love is what it is all about.  The most important thing in life is having a relationship with Jesus, but right after that is having relationships with others that are built on the Cornerstone that is Christ.  Always remember that this is always a matter of heart and not just the head.  Heart to heart relationships are birthed via the Spirit and are maintained by sincere Love.  May the Great Comforter write truth and love on our hearts today.

Love and …….

I enjoyed this very much and have to say this describes my experience. So many get offended at your description of the Bible not being THE authority. If they would read carefully your explanation here sincerely, they would see your heart. I believe over time you have learned to express it better, not sounding so ‘anti-Bible’ as some feel you are. Relationship, yes. Amen. “BK”

I think some people consider the Bible to be the fourth member of the Trinity (although I guess the word wouldn’t be Trinity then 🙂 ) Christopher is sharing such a profound truth. The Bible is wonderful and a true gift from God. With the Spirit, the Bible is a great tool. Yet without the Spirit, even the Bible can be used for harm. This is not putting down the Bible, but simply understanding the true center is the Lord Himself.
