God Has No Equals

November 15, 2014

“You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.  You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.  Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.  Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.  He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant–not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”  2 Corinthians 3: 2-6

In this passage Paul makes it abundantly clear that the Holy Spirit is much greater than the written letter.  In fact the letter in and of itself kills, while the Spirit gives life.  This is exactly why I say that we need to be Spirit led and NOT bible led.  In fact without the Holy Spirit guiding us through the scriptures, we would not even properly comprehend what is written in the first place.

Please allow me to take that one giant step further?  I contend that what the Spirit writes on our hearts is superior to everything else that is written with ink or on stone.  In other words clear cut Holy Spirit guidance should be desired over and above either the New or Old Testament writings.

Note, I am not saying the bible is not vital or important.  However, I am saying right up front that the leading of the Holy Spirit is more important than biblical head knowledge.  Jesus made it abundantly clear that you can know the scriptures and still not know Him.  The bible is awesome when you allow the Holy Spirit to teach you through it, but is a dead book of Law, death and religious bondage on it’s own.

We all need to freely offer up our hearts to Jesus and fully allow the Holy Spirit to write on them as only He sees fit.  Direct revelation from the Spirit is greater than receiving secondary revelation from the great book.  I agree that it is best to have both the Spirit and the bible in our lives, as long as we never forget that one is actually God and the other is just a grand book from God; and God has no equals.

  1. My condolences in Prayer to see this as a boost in her new location safe and secure forever more, Knowing she will be missed here as I have had 4 go so far in my biological Family, Not easy, So I pray for you Janet to see through

  2. And Kirk right about God has no Equals, yet didn’t Christ make us as Equals through his perfect life here with his death for us. Col 1:22, then by this is how new life freely we get from Father when we ask, once we give up on self to do it, which we can’t, and is why he came for us death, burial, resurrection, ascension and delivery of the Spirit that began at Pentecost
Can you add anything you see or take away as we are learning truth over error

  3. Prayers for Janet and family and for the repose of her mother’s soul.

I actually prefer other translations, I will quote YLT 2Co 3:3 “our letter ye are, having been written in our hearts, known and read by all men, manifested that ye are a letter of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not in the tablets of stone, but in fleshy tablets of the heart”. Not because it disagrees with what you said, because for sure it is about what the Spirit has written within. But I don’t see Paul saying ‘the result of our ministry’; I see him saying THEY wrote on HIS (and those with him) heart and what they ministered is a direct result of that portion they received. It isn’t about Paul writing in them, it is them writing in him. I find this important because of how high Paul is lauded when he constantly points out the ‘one anothering’ that has happened, not just his ‘great ministry’. Am I making any sense? “BK”

  4. I like what you say BK, However, I also feel that “the result of OUR ministry” means that their ministry was reciprocal, mutually reciprocal, as a matter of fact, with every member participating in the same anointing from Christ. Meaning there were no walls or barriers like human hierarchies create and build. No, the ministry Paul was speaking of was intimate and shared with whosoever will.

Well, you just did! (comment). Just knowing others are blessed is a blessing in and of itself. And…any other comments, questions or musings I’m sure Christopher welcomes! Thanks, Catherine, “BK”
