His Voice Comes First

September 22, 2014

“…because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.  And by Him we cry “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”  Romans 8: 14-17

Here it is again…… “..those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”  Please notice again that we are supposed to be Spirit led and NOT bible led.  If someone is bible led it does not necessarily mean that they are a son of God, but if they are Spirit led they are a son of God.  It does not get much clearer than that folks.  Once again I am not saying that the bible is not important in the life of a Christ follower.  In fact the place that the Spirit leads us most often to for truth and confirmation is the bible.   However, being Spirit led is not limited to the bible; but being bible led leads to many limitations.

Another thing…. I was just reading Revelation and in chapters two and three we find messages to the seven churches and each message concludes with,,, “Let him who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.”  The Greek word used for “hear” is a form of akouomai, from which we get the English word acoustic and it means exactly what it says…to hear or recognize.  If we really want to know what God is saying to the church we need to listen to, and follow, the Spirit; NOT the bible.  Don’t throw your bible away, but only use it when the Spirit leads you to.

Finally Jesus said in John Chapter 10 that His sheep hear His voice and obey.  So where it comes to following Jesus and The Spirit we need to listen and hear His voice.  It does not say to look at and read the bible.  True Christ followers listen for His voice instead of always trying to make the bible His sole authority.  Of course when we do read the bible we can also hear His voice there quite often, but always remember that His voice is always more important than what is printed.  Right now some folks are shaking their heads and pulling out their hair because of what I have written here.  I will say this right out loud now…. sola scriptura is a lie.  The bible is not the know all and end all of the faith.  I am glad to have the bible as a most excellent resource in my life, but I refuse to elevate it to near Godhood.  I know this is a difficult saying, but what I am sharing is the truth in love, even according to the bible.  Listen for His voice.  He will guide you.

Love and …..

I like the ‘acoustic’. Being a guitar player that means alot to me….as in the simple, real sound of the wood guitar resonating the strum of the strings. Nothing amplified or electrical or synthesized….just the true sound. Love, “BK”

My wife and I agree with you! When we shared this understanding at a home group we used to attend, it was not affirmed by anyone, but sometimes looks speak more clearly than words! We no longer attend that meeting as The Holy Spirit has called us out to learn to hear His voice! My physical hearing has deteriorated as I near my 70 birthday, but Jesus is coming in more clearly!!! Great trade off!
Thanks Michael for sharing the truth in love!

Well, maybe approaching 70 creates some memory issues! Sorry for the mistake! You do realize that in MANY ways you and Michael are one in the Spirit! I have written/responded to you before and do appreciate you as a special brother who is wonderful and uniquely made!
    Love in Jesus

  6. Thank you Chris, discerning very important, how can one be led by God if they wake up and hear go the land of the Golden Arches and eat a cheeseburger
If they are Bible led only, they would, might look where does it say that Lord, and do not go as led, dismissing the call to go and I bet end up witnessing,
    Good insightful post

  7. Can’t quite get to “Only use the Bible when the Spirit leads,” and I’m pretty sure that’s not what you meant anyhow.

I’ve found that it pays to read the scriptures so much that the words are in your head and can come out anytime you like. I have whole, big hunks memorized. The Spirit uses those passages in my memory to steer me.

It’s also the case that by reading enough scripture, learning enough history, and letting the Holy Spirit have enough influence over time, that one comes to understand the scriptures far better. Then one does not necessarily need to hear the Spirit, because one knows what God would say before one has to hear. It’s good to know where God’s character defaults.

For example, I used to wonder whether it was God’s will that I have certain things that I pray for. I no longer wonder; His character says “Yes” to just about everything. Now I know to ask, believing, and assume that it’s fine unless I hear otherwise.

  8. No, that id not what I meant, it was rhetorical to those that think if it not in the word then it is not of God. That is not true. God is everywhere all the time, and god is good all the time and God supplies all our needs period, God is Faithful and I trust in God’s Faithfulness not my own, or anyone else’s. yet listen to all, unless I am told differently, I trust god then s well as you just said, never to take for granted or advantage of anyone.

Jesus done nothing unless the Father spoke to Him (requires hearing), or He saw the Father doing it(requires seeing)…( John 5:30; 5:19; 12:49-50; 8:28-29)…..He was our example in everything and he did not say, “ Let me see if that’s in the scriptures first , Father”……He immediately obeyed the Father because He was so in tune with Him and full of the Spirit that He knew the Father’s voice. That did not come from the written word.
We came across this scripture today regarding the needs or wants of our life……(CLV) Mat 6:25 Therefore I am saying to you, Do not worry about you soul, what you may be eating, or what you may be drinking, nor yet about your body, what you should be putting on. Is not the soul more than nourishment, and the body than apparel?
Mat 6:26 Look at the flying creatures of heaven, that they are not sowing, neither are they reaping, nor are they gathering into barns, and your heavenly Father is nourishing them. Are not you of more consequence than they?
Mat 6:27 Now who of you by worrying is able to add on to his stature one cubit?
Mat 6:28 And why are you worrying about apparel? Study the anemones of the field, how they are growing. Not toiling are they, nor yet are they spinning.”
Mat 6:29 Yet I am saying to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these.
Mat 6:30 Now if the grass of the field, which is today, and tomorrow is cast into the stove, God thus is garbing; not much rather you, scant of faith?
Mat 6:31 You, then, should not be worrying, saying, ‘What may we be eating?’ or ‘What may we be drinking?’ or ‘With what may we be clothed?'”
Mat 6:32 For for all these the nations are seeking. For aware is your heavenly Father that you need all of these.
Mat 6:33 Yet seek first the kingdom and its righteousness, and these all shall be added to you.”
Mat 6:34 You should not, then, be worrying about the morrow, for the morrow will be worrying of itself. Sufficient for the day is its own evil.”

Jesus did not say that we are to have everything that we may desire or want. He said in V.31…-33 not to worry about “eating”, “drinking”, or “clothing” because the Heavenly Father is aware and then He says seek ye first the Kingdom and its righteousness and these shall be added to you.
Definitely not the teaching of todays “churches”. Today is you deserve all the material things that you can get your hands on. I haven’t found that in the scriptures and I also have not found material things to be part of spiritual blessings. Any thoughts?

    • Yep verse 32, states for all those things Christ just spoke of man is in search for. And Father is aware of what one needs, yet this world is really good at adding to our needs for sales to have Jobs and keep the economy running so needs are extended to wants and desires, resulting in Doctrines that God hates, not just in the Church buildings. The Doctrines are right in Revelation 2, Nicolaitans, Balaam, Balack, Jezebel.
These Doctrines are all interconnected Selfishness, control of God’s people and the one that leads to be patted on the back along with all that support theses Doctrines of Heresy
The gathering in fellowship is to share and build up, not control others and talk foolishly, as in telling my right hand what my left hand is doing or has done.
In Love and Mercy we are to help hold each other up and not one up one another, ever/ Consider our Brother or sister better than us, why, to keep from being puffed up.
For if we belong to God and we get puffed up, do we need a messenger od Satan to buffet us to keep us humble. to remind us of our need, and not be holier than thou

Everything you just read off is trust to the Living God that is alive forever more as our high Priest forever out of the tribe of Judah, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Sister for your post here

So again as it said will worry add a single moment to our life’s here and now?
