How Will They Know?

October 29, 2013

Jesus said:  “A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13: 34-35

At the end of the day the only thing that really matters is faith expressing itself through love.  God is LOVE and LOVE is THE answer!  According to Jesus the only way that people will know that we are following Him is by the love we show for each other.  They will never know we are His by our “church” attendance, biblical knowledge, tithing, prosperity, sound doctrine, good looks, or public speaking ability.  The one and only true mark of a sincere believer in Christ is LOVE.

Love is more powerful than any other attribute we may practice or possess.  Our highest calling is to love others just as Jesus did.  Jesus loved others unconditionally and so should we.  Jesus loved so much that He laid down His life for everyone. If we are truly to follow His great example, we should do no less.

Sharing His truth in love is rarely easy.  It costs us dearly to extend this manner of love to others.  Loving others places us in a vulnerable state every time we reach out beyond our personal comfort zone.  The big question is are we really willing to sacrifice our health, well being and safety in order to love those who need love most?  Christ’s love will take you to the bad part of town where danger lurks around every corner.  This love will take you to visit the deathly ill and notoriously dangerous.  This love will enable you to forgive sin and hug your accuser.  Finally, this love with set you and others free.  I know no other way to say it or to live it.  Truly the only safe place on earth is the location where we are enveloped in His Love.  Wherever you encounter and share this type of love…drink of it deeply my friends.

Love and …..

I would go so far as to say that as love is made perfect in us, love would just be who we are. The word “should” would cease to be spoken in regard to love, as loving would become as natural as breathing. To not love would be to willfully resist who we are, and show hatred for our very being. It would be like holding our breath out of hatred for the air that enables us to live.

“The word “should” would cease to be spoken in regard to love”…..I loved this statement! Indeed, noone can love because they ‘should’. It isn’t that I ‘should’ but that now I am able because of His mingling with me :). So many people today say love is a choice. I don’t believe that. It is a fruit and it is alive, growing within us.
