A Wonderful Time Of “Searching Together”

August 18, 2013

Greetings,

“Finally, brothers, good-by.  Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace.  And the God of love and peace be with you.  Greeting one another with a holy kiss.  All the saints send their greetings.  May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”          2 Corinthians 13: 11-14

This morning all the participants of the “Searching Together” gathering came together for our final 2013 session.  It was a mixture of prayers, songs, sharing, and testimonies.  Everyone loved my guitar and the original songs I shared.  It was a very moving session as we lifted up Jesus and shared truth in love with one another.

Next came the most difficult part of the gathering….. saying good bye to one another. In four short days many of us became very close with each other.  Mutual bonds of true siblinghood were forged through tears and laughter as we thoroughly enjoyed one another’s fellowship and company.  I made lifetime friends at this gathering and I am certain I will see many face to face again in this lifetime.  At the end we embraced one another with glad and sincere hearts.  We were all extremely thankful to the Lord for bringing us together for this long weekend.  And I was not the only one sharing Holy kisses this morning.

It was a simple gathering of those the Lord has called outside of Babylon and the four walls of the traditional “church” system.  It was a unique conference because none of the speakers were paid to be here.  In fact everyone paid their own way.  In order to be a featured speaker in one of our sessions all we had to do was share our intention with the coordinator of the event, Jon Zens, before all nine sessions were filled.

The sessions themselves were also very unique….the speakers got 40 minutes of sharing and then we were given 40 minutes to interact concerning the sessions subject matter.  So half and half with monologue and dialogue.  Still more monologue than I am comfortable with, but all in all it worked and flowed well.

Topics were varied from “Christ on Earth as Community” to “Loving Like God”, to what it means to BE “IN” Christ, to The Justice of God, to how God is neither male or female, and finally to New Testament ministry in practice.  The presentations were somewhat helpful, but frankly I got a lot more out of the open discussion times where everyone actively shared their portion of Christ.

In our last session Saturday night a minor controversy arose when one brother shared his belief that ALL will be saved in the end sometime, somehow.  That Christ’s sacrifice was for ALL and that ALL really did mean ALL.  This brother was then accused of promoting universal salvation.  In my view this brother was not promoting anything, but was just sharing his portion with the Body.  However, what could have become a major episode and “trainwreck” was handled well by the vast majority of participants.  Folks disagreed, but for the most part did so in love and in decent order.  IMHO the whole event could have been avoided by just allowing the brother to have shared his portion without harsh reaction and what some would call badgering.  The fact that this night did not spin out of control into the flesh, but rather stayed in the Spirit for the most part is a credit to the level of maturity of most of the participants.

My favorite part of the gathering was fellowship during meals and late into the night. The after gathering gathering was sweet.  The time we spent developing or deepening relationships was just precious to me.  In short we shared life, HIS Life, with one another without agenda.  His love flowed and generously so.  Spending time with the authentic Body of Christ is always worth whatever sacrifice it takes to get there.  I love and already miss my new friends.  Can’t wait til next year!

Love and….

Chris, it was an honor to meet you and spend this precious time with you. I look forward to all of us coming together again. Love you, brother!

  5. It sounds like a really good time.

The need to coalesce around specific doctrines to be unified in spirit, is as old as the need to control people using religion. I will be glad when spiritual family members do not judge others, but encourage and accept others as befitting the children of God.

I love the idea, and currently subscribe to the idea of Universal Reconciliation, as well as a number of fringe notions as far as orthodoxy is concerned. To all ‘Searching Together’ participants, grace is only proved though complete acceptance. : )
