The Spirit Has Written On Our Hearts

July 6, 2013

“You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.  You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts……….He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant – not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”  2 Corinthians 3: 2-3, 6

This passage shows us that what really matters in life and ministry are Spirit forged relationships.  It is all about being Spirit led and touching peoples hearts.  If we desire to give people life and well being we will do so by allowing the Spirit to guide our interactions.

Ink and paper do not give life to anyone and that includes even the ink and paper of the bible.  Life comes only from the Spirit and the best way to communicate life is via relationships.  The bible does have a role in the life of a Christ follower, but it was never intended to be the primary source of light and life.  When we place the bible ahead of the Spirit and relationship with God and others the letter then kills instead of enhancing our life in Christ.

However, when we allow the Spirit to guide us into all truth (John 16: 13) the bible then becomes perhaps the greatest resource in the life of a believer.  There is a HUGE difference between seeing scripture as THE Source and Authority in one’s life, instead of simply seeing scripture as the great gift and resource that it is.  Quoting scriptures may appeal to the intellect of others, but they do not give life to them.

If you want to give life then simply share life with others as you are being led by the Spirit of God.  Touching hearts while sharing the Truth in Love is what it is all about.  The most important thing in life is having a relationship with Jesus, but right after that is having relationships with others that are built on the Cornerstone that is Christ.  Always remember that this is always a matter of heart and not just the head.  Heart to heart relationships are birthed via the Spirit and are maintained by sincere Love.  May the Comforter write truth on our hearts today.

Love and …….

  1. Chris, Beautiful truth, Jesus made this message (restoration of the heavenly relationship and the earthly relationships) accessible to all, children to adults. The longer I live the more I see that the churchification of the Western world was the enemies greatest achievement. Jesus wins, and the enemies religions loose. For all who will know Jesus in simplicity and truth, religious traditions and human churchification must end, so true life can reign.

This is one of my favorite verses (well, I say that about ALOT of verses…grin). I was always taught that the great Paul wrote into peoples’ lives and then as they were ‘read’ the great Paul’s words came through. But it doesn’t say that. It says THEY wrote into HIM. Paul was a conglomerate of what the Body had written into him by their words and experiences and sharing of lives together. (and he in them, of course). Many times people so love something we say or write, when in reality what comes forth is a mingling of many fellowships, conversations, reading, etc over the years. LIke a beautiful tapestry. I also hear it so often said about how much of the New Testement Paul ‘wrote’. Paul wasn’t writing a New Testement….he was writing letters, he was RELATING! And, not only that, but if close attention is paid to the opening of most of those ‘books’ attributed to him one finds it says, “Paul AND Timothy”, “Paul AND Timothy AND Sosthenes….”. When we see it like that, in relational, shared communication it really takes the ‘rule book’ barb out and let’s the life it was intended to be flow. Just my thoughts, “BK”
