The Voice

June 4, 2013

Greetings,

“Paul, an apostle-sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead…”  Galatians 1: 1

“But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.  Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.  I saw none of the other apostles-only James, the Lord’s brother.  I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.  Later I went to Syria and Cilicia.  I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.  They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”  And they praised God because of me.”  Galatians 1: 15-24

Several quick points here…

1.  Paul was sent directly by God.  He did not have to be endorsed by a Pastor/Leader, “church” council or any missions board.

2.  Paul did not even consult with any man, including others who were apostles of his day.

3.  It was three years before he even went to Jerusalem and met Peter and James.

4.  All this being said…when The Lord leads you to go somewhere or do something, you can just do it.  You do not need approval from any man or group.  If you trust His Voice you can just flow in the Spirit and do ANYTHING He calls you to.  Problem is that most do not know or trust His Voice, even though the bible states that His sheep hear His Voice and obey.  It is a matter of hearing His actual Voice and not second hand revelation from the mouth of another.  It is all about hearing His audible Voice, at least it will seem audible to you when you hear it.  NOTICE:  It does not say that His sheep will read the bible and obey. This is about intimately knowing and recognizing the Voice of our Lord and then following exactly what He says.  The big question now is do you trust Him and His Voice?

Ask yourself the following questions:

“Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God?  Or am I trying to please men?  If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”  Galatians 1: 10

Just who are you trying to please?  And why?  If you are going to serve God then just go ahead and serve Him as His Voice leads you.  Forget about the approval and acceptance of mere men.  Paul did not return to Jerusalem for another 14 years after his first encounter with Peter.  And when he did return he opposed and rebuked Peter to his face, because Peter was listening to the voices of the Jews instead of the Voice of The Lord.  Peter compromised the truth in love and was honoring Jewish Law over and above the message of Grace.  How often do we compromise what His Voice tells us in order to keep the peace and win the approval of mere men?

I know I am asking difficult questions, but know that I am asking myself the very same questions and I am definitely not measuring up 100% of the time.  It’s simple….hear His Voice and obey, but we tend to over complicate it in our daily lives.  Today I choose to listen to you Lord…knowing full well that who You call You also equip.  Stop measuring yourself by external standards like the Law and peer pressure.  Jesus always compensates for what you may lack.  It is time to just BE obedient and follow His Voice today.

Love and…..

  1. Good word, my brother! Paul wrote,

“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,” (Ephesians 4:20-23, NKJV)

How many who claim Christ and cling to the “Word of God” have learned Christ by the hearing of HIS voice and have been “taught by Him” and got their truth from Him? How many are still trying to approach God in the futility of their own minds? Looking at all the divisions we have between Christians today, the answer is all too obvious. They have been taught by men.

    Perfect.

  3. Hi Kirk, a friendly comment. What if I am one of God’s sheep, read my Bible, hear God’s voice in/through it and obey? I’m not trying to be difficult or technical, simply saying that I have heard God’s voice in a multitude of ways over the years, including the above AND the way you have explained. I think we must be careful, including me, of generalising sometimes…

    Greetings!

    • Yes, Erroll I agree. The place His voice most often leads me is to scripture. HE speaks in a multitude of ways. But there are many who still say the ONLY place He speaks today is through scripture and that is WAY wrong

  4. There is a demarcation point, the point where we let go of the soul/bible connection, and embrace the Spirit/spirit connection. Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Any human can adopt a bible based theology, there are over 40,000 of those in the world today. Only sons and daughters live a Spirit/spirit relationship.

  5. i never knew th Lord apart from hearing Him…i never knew Him thru bible study, church, wasnt in a church and didnt know any christians, at least none who mentioned Him…anyway…i dont understand why theres a lack of hearing or why hearing has to be ‘taught’ or encouraged…faith comes by hearing and hearing comes by th Word of God, which is Christ in us…so…i cant see how ppl can know Him apart from hearing Him…i mean…anyone can read a book but that isnt th same as knowing Him…not according to Him…He said we hear Him–AND see Him…

if ppl have only bibles and books, how is it possible for them to know Him at all? those come up with doctrines and orders of service and tryna carve in stoen (brickand mortar) what is living breathing LIFE…either we hear Him and know Him or we dont hear Him at all…and apart from hearing Him by His Spirit, then theres no faith…

ppl who dispute hearing never heard Him…and if we hear Him, we dont need encouragement to follow Him bc He alone is able to make Hmself known to His ppl…and its Him tha tmoves us and stands us…if we dont hear Him we are not His…He said His sheep hear His voice and dont listen to th stranger voice…

Hi, Gianna. I think the reason people think that is because in the culture of Christianity they are taught that. I spent my years in the religious world but I met Him & knew Him before I ever ended up there and just dismissed when they told me I had to hear from ‘them and only them’. I’m thankful for that. Even when He spoke and spoke and spoke for me to come out I argued 🙂 But I’m sure grateful for His persistance. “BK”

      • BK…ah…i also didnt come from any church backgroudn….thx fa ur response and clarity…i dont think ppl can know Him apart from how He say to know Him…so whenever i see ppl dont hear Him…regardless of bible, no bible, whatever…they cant kjnow Him apart from Hisefl…u kjnow? anyway…Scripture testifies of Christ and its a joy when He reveals Himself in it…but that is still th finish of th old and th bringing of th new covenant…walking it out (th newness of life, NT) is a whole other book written in our hearts, from th inside…and we are living epistles…not a paper and ink book…
