Salt & Light

October 6, 2012

Jesus said:

“You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.  You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5: 13-16

Salt and light, two things Jesus said we should be.  Salt is used mainly for two things, flavor and preservation of goods that could spoil.  We should always flavor the world around us in a savory fashion. People should be able to taste and see that The Lord is good via our participation in the world around us.  The world I live in today is not very tasty.  In fact it is sour and tastes pretty bad.  I believe it tastes bad because most “Christians” have withdrawn from the world around them.  They are not an active witness of Christ at all.  The only thing they want to preserve are their own lives.  They do not love and want to save those around them.  This my friends is sad indeed.

The body of Christ is supposed to be the “light” of the world.  But instead of shining light into the dark places, many have chosen to hide in their “church” buildings.  Again no active witness in the world around them.  We are supposed to light the way for those seeking Him, but how can we do that if we are not out and in the open for all people to see.

The ” Church” most times have abdicated their rightful place in the world.  Mostly because of selfishness and fear.  We are called to be in the world, but not of it.  If this is true, why do most treat their “church” buildings like a fortress to keep bad things and people out?  The only reason the world is so dark and scary is because we left it to its own devices instead of illuminating it with the bright light of Christ.

We are called to be engaged and active in the world around us.  Jesus called us to be salt and light in the world; and to deny that fact means we are actually denying Him.  If you say you belong to Him then show it by stepping out into your community and making a difference in the lives of those who are yet to know Him.  Try His will for a change instead of your own?  To those of you already out there and serving others; I salute you.  To the rest; get off your blessed assurance and live your life for a change.

Love and….

P.s.  I don’t mean to be harsh, but His passion has filled me recently.  I have been set free and can’t keep silent about Him and His will.  If He can save and deliver me I know He will do it for others too.

Wow, another wonderful blog, thank you for doing this ministry. This is so very true, really hits home to me, makes me regret how I have not been faithful to full fill the call of God in some areas of my life, and in the same time makes me see anxious to get up and get busy doing Gods will, thank you for the encouragement and the push, we all need a little push sometimes, I LOVE to see the words you wrote you have been set free, brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart.

  2. Free people act freely, captives have a siege mentality. We do see the works of church in society, however abysmal. They are similar works as any other civic group. If we understand that Jesus died for us to be His sons and daughters, we could never be satisfied with participating in the church system. The Kingdom of God comes with power, church, because it source is not God, is relegated to flesh power, and can never produce Heavens work.
