Listen?

January 8, 2012

Greetings,

You know what I hate?  I hate the first two questions people always ask you when they find out that you are a believer of some sort.  The first question is always, “Where do you go to Church?”, and the second question is always “Who is your Pastor/Leader?”  I hate the questions even though I have pretty good answers.  My answer to question one is “I don’t go to Church because it is impossible to go to what you are.  Because the Church is the people not the building or location.   You might go to the place the church gathers, but you cannot go to Church.   Read my T-shirt?  Don’t Go To Church….BE The Church!”  The answer to the second question is even easier…”I follow Jesus, because Jesus is the only true Leader in the Church!”  Most people agree with me when I spell it out that way, those that don’t get it just walk away.

I was in the grocery store last year and a lady who worked with me at our local Pregnancy Helpline asked me if our housechurch was doing “The 50 day Spiritual Adventure?”  I said “No, we are all about the 365 days a year adventure”  We laughed, but I think I made my point, and yes she still talks with me.

I say all that to ask this question…… Does a true follower of Jesus really need a Pastor/Teacher/Leader?  Seriously, think about that before you answer too quickly?  Because 1 John 2: 27 says this:

“As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you.  But as His anointing teaches you about all things and and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in Him.”

In context this passage is warning about Antichrists and false teaching, but verse 27 is rock solid clear to me:  Jesus gave us His anointing and His anointing teaches us all things without the need of a human teacher.  The traditional church manages to tap dance all around this message, but there it is clear as day.  But doesn’t the Bible talk about apostles, prophets, evangelists and pastor/teachers?  Sure it does in a few places, but these gifts never replace His anointing and direct revelation.  If anything they are meant for confirmation of His anointing.  The antichrist and false teaching is that you need these people and that you should trust them over and above His anointing.

“So captain are you telling me that I can hear directly from God for myself?”  The answer is YES, absolutely.  So you better start listening to Him instead of traditional church doctrine and its teachers.  It may take awhile to develop a listening ear and heart, but I guarantee that His anointing is real.  You want to learn about Jesus?  Then just start hanging around other Christ followers who have and use His anointing.  Share what you think you are hearing from Him and your peers can help you determine what is of Him and what is not.  Do not be afraid of being wrong because that is how we best learn.  “My sheep hear My voice and obey.”  Listen, share and then listen and share some more!

Love and…..

Kirk Out !

p.s.  I am not saying that we don’t need each other in the body of Christ.  What I am saying is that everyone in the body is special and anointed and not just a select few.  I have been taught much by His anointing via other saints, living and dead.  I even read the occasional book other than the bible, but when I turn to others I am still listening for Him, His voice and His anointing.

  1. Those that say we need to be taught by someone wiser than ourselves quite often exclude themselves. Each time I hear someone rebut this, it appears they are the learned.
Ironically it’s taken me eight years to believe what I believed before I put myself into the hands of the scholars.
We’ve based an entire system on how many verses for a pastor? One?

  2. I just got back from a visit with my Baptist pastor, brother-in-law on Friday. What a trip! He is one of those who believes that all inspiration from God ended with the closing of the canonical list of the books of the Bible. Yes, the books in that list were inspired as is the official list that includes them in their leather bindings. But according to his doctrine, from that point on, men are no longer inspired by the voice of the Spirit. All we need to do is read our Bibles and we will get everything we need. Then he went on to say that the real meaning of every scripture has been rightly translated by the scholars and they are not to be questioned. We don’t even need to use an good analytical concordance when translators contradict themselves (for instance compare the phrase “rule over” in Mark 10:42 and Hebrews 13:7 KJV). He went on to say that the translators and Bible commentators need pastors (the five fold) to teach the Bible to the laity.

When I was a kid I was told by the Catholic nuns that God was not approachable by us low-life laity sinners so we should pray to Jesus… but if we really want your request to be heard by Jesus, we should pray to Mary and then she would go and tell it to Jesus for us an that would work because He being her Son has to listen to His mother. Then Jesus would go to the Father with the request and that was when things would get done. Then there were the specialists in these different matters, the canonized saints. There is a “patron saint” to be prayed to for every kind of request we could come up with, one for the travellers, one for finding lost things, sick animals, aids patients, salesman… you name it, but we were to NEVER think ourselves worthy to pray to “our Father who is in heaven”! (See http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/Saints/patrons.aspx)

So I became a Protestant only to find out that the same system exists! The chain of command of all spiritual knowledge must be adhered to or you might become a heretic! God > The Spirit > The Bible writers > The Bible translators > The Bible scholars > The Bible knowledge teachers (pastors, evangelists and Sunday School teachers) > and finally the ignorant laity.

John wrote in 1 John ch. 2 that many antichrists were already among the church in the form of human teachers. He was addressing the plague of Gnostics that was coming in among the churches out of the schools of Alexandria, Egypt– those claiming to have special knowledge of all things spiritual. Is it any different today? Yet our defence against this misleading plague today is the same as it was back then, “Listen to the Force, Luke!?” What is that “force”? The unction we have been given when we were born from above by the Spirit of God… His voice within us. Jesus sent the Spirit to lead us into all truth, not scholars or translators, or teachers or even a leather bond gilded book that has been often translated by men with no inspiration from God! Yes, that inner Voice, the Spirit of God, the Unction, the Comforter is who guides and leads those who are born from above. Sure He can and does use the Bible, but He is not bound by what men say about it!

The early church existed for hundreds of years without any personal Bibles in their gatherings, yet they were accused of turning the world upside down! How could this be? They followed the leading of the Holy Spirit in all things necessary for the growth of the ekklesia. Yes, there were deceivers and that is why so many letters were written by Paul, Peter, John, etc.. to the churches, but they never intended those letters to take the place of the Spirit in the body of Christ! Today, scholasticism has trumped the living Spirit of God and this kind of knowledge puffs man up and many egotistical un-crucified men are allowed to lead the church as its teachers.

Yes, we are placed in a body of believers who are to listen to His voice, but they are hard to find because religious man is taught that he can’t trust God’s voice, that he will hear it correctly. But if you find another brother or sister in whom the cross of Christ has dealt with that old Adam within, who is not easily deceived… THAT person with another one who is born from above or even three or more.. they will come into a common understanding of what the truth is. If we walk by the Spirit we will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. Where two or three of His saints are gathered together in HIS name (not their own agendas) He has promised to be there in the midst of them and “the Word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
    (Hebrews 4:12-13 KJV)

Remember, when Satan was using scripture to temp Jesus, the Son of God said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that PROCEEDS from the mouth of God.”

I have heard it said many times, “It’s just the ‘young ones’ who need to be ‘ruled’ so they are safe.” An interesting note on those verses in I John 2 is that John begins in verse 18 speaking TO the ‘little children’; and then reiterates that in verse 28. So, from birth let us teach the children YES! you indeed CAN hear from the Spirit yourself. YOU have an anointing within. Good words, Chris, thanks, “BK”
